The CDC has issued new guidance regarding the definition of "close contact" for the purposes of determining exposure to Covid-19, contact tracing, and quarantine. The old guidance defined a close contact as someone who was within 6 feet of a Covid-19 positive person for 15 minutes or more. The new guidance defines a close contact as someone who was within 6 feet of a Covid-19 positive person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge has recommended that all schools in the Diocese begin using the new guidance on close contacts when performing contact tracing and determining quarantine. St. John School will follow the Diocese's recommendations. This notification will serve as our official update to the Covid-19 policies sent to parents with the Parent/Student Handbook at the beginning of the year.
