Update to Parents - July 6

Dear Eagle Family,

We hope everyone is having a great summer break! We are still in the planning stages for returning to school in August, and our faculty task force continues to make progress on our procedures to keep our students and faculty safe when we are back on campus. Representatives from Our Lady of the Lake will be on campus this Thursday to walk through our facilities and offer best practices in infection prevention and risk mitigation with recommendations for our task force. In the meantime, we have some information about the beginning of school to share. Please remember to visit the Back to School page on our website (www.stjohnschool.org) for documents and information on our return to school as well.

We've attached information regarding class fees and school supply lists. Please note that in addition to the supplies on these lists, all students must have a mask or other face covering when we return to school. Students in grades 3 and up will be required to wear masks in shared spaces on campus, and in the classroom in some circumstances. All students will be allowed to wear a mask at any time, if they choose. Masks do not have to be a particular color or style, but masks should be free of inappropriate language or artwork. We suggest having students "practice" wearing their masks for short periods of time before school begins to help them get used to wearing them.

Our first day of school will be August 7, however, not all students will report to school on August 7. We will use the following schedule to stagger our students' return to campus, so we will have time to evaluate our new procedures for arrival and dismissal, changing classes, and other daily logistics, before everyone is on campus together:

Friday, August 7 - ONLY students in grades 10-12 report to school
Monday, August 10 - ONLY students in grades 6-9 report to school
Tuesday, August 11 - ONLY students in grades 1-5 report to school
Wednesday, August 12 - students in grades 1-12 report to school; first half of Pre-K and K students report to school (PreK-K parents will be notified of their child's start day)
Thursday, August 13 - students in grades 1-12 report to school; second half of Pre-K and K students report to school (PreK-K parents will be notified of their child's start day)
Friday, August 14 - All students in all grades report to campus

Students should wear regular uniforms on these days. These will be full days of school.

We will share additional details on our plans to return to campus during the week of July 20. We know that our families have many questions, and we are doing our best to get the most updated information to you as soon as possible. As you know, things continue to change rapidly, and we want to use the most current information available when we are finalizing our plans to bring students back to campus. With new changes comes new decisions to be made.  Therefore, we ask for your patience as we work to address the current health and safety guidelines.  In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us with your questions and concerns - your feedback is important in our planning process! Please continue to pray for our Eagle family as we work to reach our goal of a safe return to campus in August.

 2020 -2021 SCHOOL SUPPLY FEE/CLASS DUES

In grades K – 3, a supply fee of $40.00 is collected from each student. Teachers of grades K-3 will purchase initial supplies for the beginning of the school year for all students. Parents of students in grades 4 - 12 will purchase their own supplies. A school supply list for grades 4 – 8 will be posted on the school website at www.stjohnschool.org. High school students will be given supply lists on the first day of school.

Class dues are collected from all students:

CLASS DUES ($15) in grades PreK3 – 8 are used to purchase snacks, treats, and food for seasonal parties and other special events that are held for students throughout the year. Additionally a portion of these monies are used to create auction baskets for our school’s annual auction.

FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORE CLASS DUES ($20) are used for homecoming activities, defrayed field trip costs, guest speakers, special presentations, and the class auction Baskets.

JUNIOR CLASS DUES ($100) are collected in keeping with the tradition of juniors planning, organizing, and hosting the Jr./Senior Prom. These dues help to cover all the expenses of putting on a memorable prom for students and their dates along with other school related activities. Additionally a portion of the dues is used to create an auction basket for the school’s annual auction.

SENIOR CLASS DUES ($200) cover the regular student activity fee, as well as the special senior activities such as: an overnight retreat including meals and transportation, Maypole Civic Center rental, reception, decorations, and programs, Senior Honors Night awards, Graduation cap and gown, diploma, diploma cover, program, and decorations. Additionally a portion of the dues is used to create an auction basket for the school’s annual auction. If you would prefer to pay $100.00 now and $100.00 in January, those arrangements can be made. Either the full amount of $200.00 or half the amount of $100.00 is due by August 1st.

All fees can be paid with one check and more than one student’s fee can be paid on the same check. Checks may be made payable to St. John School. Please include on the check the student’s name and grade. All fees are due by August 1, 2020.

Pre-K Information Letter

 Dear Eagle’s Nest Parent,

Welcome to St. John School! We are very excited that you and your child will be a part of the St. John School family for the 2020-2021 school year and we welcome you to our Eagle’s Nest Pre-K Program. Given the necessary health and safety precautions, there are still many plans that are being made for this school year. We have a group of teachers meeting weekly to develop procedures for arrival, dismissal, classrooms, lunch, etc. These details will be shared with families once they are complete. Here is other important information that will help us have a smooth start to the new year!

It is important that we have all the required documentation listed below for your child. If you have not already submitted copies to the school office, please do so as soon as possible. This information must be on file in the school office before the start of school.

 Birth certificate

 Baptismal certificate (if applicant is Catholic)

 Social Security card

 Updated immunization records

 Medical or educational testing records (if applicable)

As a reminder, the balance of fees and tuition may be paid by one of the following payment plans.

 The balance may be paid in full to the bookkeeper.

 The balance may be paid by twelve monthly payments beginning in June 2020 and ending in May 2021. These automatic payments can be made from a checking or savings account by enrolling in the FACTS program. You can enroll by going online to our website at www.stjohnschool.org and click on the FACTS payment icon. The enrollment process is simple and should only take a few minutes to complete. Feel free to contact our bookkeeper, Suzan Bezet, if you have any questions.

School Time Uniforms located at 7745 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge (Bocage Village) will provide the uniforms for our Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 Eagle’s Nest programs. Included with this letter is the uniform order form that must be completed and sent or brought to school. Please make all checks payable to St. John School. If you would like to have your child try the uniform on for size fitting, samples are available at the store. School Time is open for business and all customers age 10 and over are asked to wear masks. The deadline for PreK uniform orders is July 14, 2020. Those orders will be ready for pick up on July 31, 2020.

We will collect class dues ($15.00) from each child in our Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 program. These dues are used to purchase snacks, treats, and goodies for seasonal parties and other events held throughout the year. We ask parents to purchase a sleeping mat for naptime. Please see the attached details for further information concerning the sleeping mat. We will also ask parents to supply small items such as paper towels, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes to be used in the classrooms during the year.

Our Pre-K teachers will contact parents before school begins to schedule a time for your child to visit his/her Pre-K classroom. At the time of the visit, parents will receive information about arrival/dismissal procedures, daily schedule, the school calendar, and other pertinent school information. Please bring your child’s sleeping mat with you at the time of his/her classroom visit.

Our Pre-K classrooms are housed in the elementary school wing (facing St. Clement Avenue) and our programs are school-based programs. For this reason, it is mandatory that all students enrolled in our Pre-K  programs are fully potty-trained. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please call the school office at 225-687-6616 and one of our PreK teachers will return your call to answer your questions.

Thank you again for entrusting your child to our care. We will work diligently to make the Eagle’s Nest a fulfilling learning environment that your child will enjoy each day. Please feel free to call school with any questions you may have regarding our Pre-K Program. We want to ensure that your questions are answered before the first day of school. We look forward to seeing you and your child in August!

Sincerely,

Cherie B. Schlatre, Principal
